I ran a little late with this one but here it is– your preview at the week ahead on Other Side Drive. Let’s dive right in.
My Empty Phantom will be in the studio with Halie and Charlie on Monday at 4:30! My Empty Phantom is actually one guy — Jesse Beaman, and he plays and loops several instruments to create an awesome sound. He is currently on a US and European tour and will be stopping by to talk with us so stay tuned for that.
The in-studios continue with Major Major Major at 5:30 so make sure to stick around for that. They released a five-track self-titled EP at the beginning of the year and they love KTSW enough to return to the studio and chat with us.
This week we will be giving out two tickets to Art Outside, which takes place this Friday through Sunday in Apache Pass, Texas. This three-day festival is designed to bring art of all mediums outside of the galleries and to the outdoors. They’ve got acres of camping area and everything you’ll need to enjoy all kinds of art, music and film to your heart’s content. Make sure to listen all week for your chance to win tickets!
On Tuesday, Anyssa and Harrison will be interviewing the guys from SuperLiteBike. These guys are an Experimental band from Austin, Texas with a unique sound and they’re also going to be playing at Triple Crown for Third Thursday so this will be a preview for that. They’re on at 4:30!
The CMJ Music Marathon 2012 starts this Tuesday and goes until Saturday in New York City. It involves over 1,300 artist performances in more than 80 venues throughout the city. It also involves all sorts of other events and fun stuff. The list of artists is seriously immense, guys. Take a look at their website to see just what I mean and to learn more.
Keep listening on Wednesday with Michelle and Melissa for Art Outside tickets, segments like Weird News and Tech Talk, and as always it’s a request block so call in with your requests!
Thursday Garrett and Stephanie will be interviewing Megafauna, another of our Third Thursday bands! They’ve got a lo-fi rock sound, and released their EP “Love Project” this year. They’ll be on at 4:30 so tune in for that!
On Friday, Jose and David will be chatting with reps from Raw Paw, an Austin-based magazine that supports artists. They accept submissions of everything art-related and keep folks informed about lesser-known but equally-great events going on around the Austin area.
