Set in the world of underground dubstep, “Snap” tells the story of Jim, a shy, intelligent musician whose crush on a social worker takes a dark and violent turn. The psychological thriller, starring Jake Hoffman (son of actor Dustin Hoffman) and Nikki Reed, made its world premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
I spoke with the directors of “Snap,” Youssef Delara (left) and Victor Teran (right), who also wrote the film’s screenplay, about dubstep, the musical genre they previously explored in 2011’s “Filly Brown,” and the complexities of mental illnesses, which they were quick to remind audiences are not synonymous with violence.
