    Newscast: Fovea Art Show

Texas State students showed off their photography at “Fovea,” which opened Friday, March 22nd at Austin’s Flatbed Gallery. The exhibit was curated by Art and Design senior lecturer Burton Pritzker. “Fovea” was backed by student organization Middle Grey Photography Association, and ran an entire week during gallery hours.

Sarah Calvetti, photography senior, and secretary of Middle Grey Photography Association, took part in the process of selecting which photographs would display in the show. Pritzker made the final selections. Calvetti said submission for photographs to be considered was open to any Texas State student. There were 200 submissions and 40 were selected. Calvetti’s photograph “Bits” was one of the display pieces.

“It was a photograph that I took in Mexico at a car junkyard of broken glass that had this aqua jewel tone to it – basically just trash on the ground with some rocks by it – which doesn’t sound like much. That’s what photography is about, it’s about that visual aspect that gets your mind into a different space and think things differently. I think each work that was in the show definitely brought up questions – what does that mean, how is that made? How do you find yourself in that photograph?”
– Sarah Calvetti

Middle Grey Photography Association will be displaying their photography exclusively beginning April 6th at San Marcos’ Zosima Gallery. Calvetti said that show should be up for about a month. Attendees can expect to see photographs exhibiting the theme of humanism.
