    Newscast: Preventable Theft

According to the San Marcos Police Department, theft is one of the most common intentional crimes committed in the city. This is due to the outlet centers and also college students being easy targets. Officer Andrew Sparenberg explains that a lot of the time it’s due to people simply leaving their doors unlocked.

“Most kids and a lot of thieves know that they can find a lot of cars with a lot of electronics and they can even find a lot of unlocked apartments. Some break windows and that, but most of them make out a lot better when they just check doors.”
– Officer Andrew Sparenberg

Theft is common among those with roommates because sometimes room mates aren’t good at communicating when to lock up the apartment. Sparenberg said that a thief can take the valuables and be gone within seconds so it’s important to keep your property locked up.
