Art for Water

Art for Water is an educational and family fun event sponsored by the Green Spaces Alliance. This event was hosted Saturday, August 24th at the Alamo Heights Community Garden in San Antonio, Texas. Green Spaces Alliances received a grant from the National Environment Education Foundation (NEEF) in order to help spread the word about conservation and the benefits of it.  They combine with local artists who decorate rain barrels and tanks to be auctioned off. Blair Condon, manager of Research and Communications with Green Spaces Alliances with South Texas, spoke to us about their first year doing this program.  

“Well we had several vendors come to the event including Bear County Master Gardeners, Greater Edwards Aquifer Authority, Kersey Ceramics, National Center for Appropriate Technology and the Native Plant Society and they had their own ways to demonstrate how to conserve water and people were able to go around and learn from them and get ideas about how they can apply those methods at home.”

“Art for Water” raised about $1000 and all proceeds from the event went towards community gardens in San Antonio.
