Through a contract with Wachs Water Services The City of San Marcos Water and Waste Water Utility has started a three-month water valve assessment and maintenance program in the water distribution system.
Since the first week of August, Wachs Water Services have been mechanically exercising the valves and recording information about their conditions and functionality. Damaged or inoperable valves are to be entered in the City’s work order system to be scheduled for work or replacement. Assistant director of Public Services for the City of San Marcos’ Water and Waste Water Jon Clack, talks about the first time they’ve contracted this.
“It’s something that we’ve been wanting to do for some time. It’s to start a valve assessment and exercise program and Wachs, I had spoken with them, they provide this service, we thought it’d be a good opportunity for us to learn from them so that we can carry on in the future doing this ourselves.” – Jon Clack
They plan to spend approximately $126,000 dollars in order to help control water systems better to provide better water service for their customers.
