John David Carson, developer and founder of Carson Properties, drafted a nine-story development for downtown San Marcos.
The nine-story building is set to be a total of 4,000 square-feet of retail space on the first floor, a 1,200 square foot outdoor patio, two levels of parking, and 95 housing units set to hold more than 300 residents. In which according to hopeful San Marcos residents, the additional height and building requests meets the space needed for increasing population of Texas State University and San Marcos. Many residents voiced their concern over the preservation of downtown and the areas landscape. Jimmy Cobb, San Marcos resident, describes his excitment towards the new building.
“Well it’s my opinion that the design of the building is very attractive, it will replace buildings that are not attractive. Many of the downtown structures are incredibly outdated and unattractive, it’s a good addition to downtown San Marcos”.

This building focuses to help decrease the congestion downtown and house not only students but professors, employees and local residents closer to Texas State university and the downtown area. A final decision on whether or not to grant a warrant request for Carson Properties is set to be made on January 28th.
