Hays County Attorney Debate

KTSW hosted a debate between Hays County District Attorney candidates on Wednesday night, January 29.

Wesley Mau and Lynn Peach are running for Hays County District Attorney. The two took questions from KTSW and local citizens as they shared their stances and ideas for improving the District Attorney’s office. Mau shared his experience with the crowd and said this could be one of his biggest qualifications for the position.

“Not only have I prosecuted for a long time here in Hays County during one of the periods of greatest growth that the county has seen, but I’ve also prosecuted around the state.”

Mau mentioned that his career has been preparing him for this race. Peach also shared her experience and the skills that have prepared her for the position of District Attorney.

“I have a broad range of experience, in addition to extensive trial experience. I’ve also been in management, I’ve dealt with budgeting; I’ve dealt with funding; I’ve dealt with scheduling. I have had the opportunity to do more than just try cases.”

Peach said she felt great being able to share her opinions and hopes for the District Attorney’s office.

“We need to make a change in Hays County. We cannot move backward. We have to move forward. I think I am that step forward, and I’m hoping that I get the support that I need to take the office.”

After the debate, Mau said he felt good about how it went and that the distinction between the two candidates was pretty clear.

“This District Attorney’s office is one that is growing so fast that we need somebody who has the experience managing a growing District Attorney’s office, and there’s only one candidate running for District Attorney who has any serious experience in Hays County, or who has any experience in a growing DA’s office and that’s myself.”

Early voting for primary elections starts Tuesday, February 18 and ends Friday, February 28th. The last day to register to vote is Monday, February 3.
