    Sphynx to play MR Fest

Complete Interview with Sphynx

Lucky us! Sphynx dropped by Other Side Drive to talk about their tour, upcoming single, headlining KTSW MR FEST and jammed out for us with an in-studio with an acoustic set.

Recently, Sphynx just ended a three week tour of the US. The band is happy to be back safe in Austin for their homecoming show at Lambert’s on Feb. 14th. Over the course of the tour, the band experienced a bit of rough weather, as Texans unaccustomed to snow, the band told tale of a harrowing drive through Northern New Mexico at a fast and furious 20 MPH!

We also talked about the band’s history. Prior to Sphynx, the current members have worked together on a number of different projects. This includes, a Hendrix inspired Psychedelic band and their previous band, El Guapos, which consisted of nearly a dozen people compared to Sphynx’s three.

The guys let us in on how previous projects have influenced their current upbeat dance tracks. Sighting how interesting it is that music they liked growing up, has influenced the music they play today in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Here is a more apparent influence in their Hadaway Cover. (Yes the Night at The Roxbury song!)

We also talked KTSW MR Fest! This is Sphynx’s second time performing at MR Fest but they have moved up the ranks and this year, KTSW has the pleasure of having Sphynx headline the whole sha-bang! We got to hear a paired down version of the band in-studio. However, the band assured us for MR Fest they will bring their full arsenal of synthesizers, lights and matching outfits. All you need to bring is a need to dance!
