A dedication of the new performing arts center was given last month after long waiting period.
New Performing Arts Center Opening
On February 27, the new performing arts center opened its doors after much anticipation. It features new venues for musical and theatrical performances and provides a new gateway between the university and the community. The 40 million dollar project received funding from a combination of state and philanthropic gifts including a large gift of eight million dollars to Dr. Patti Stickel Harrison. The center dedicated one of the two venues to her. Â Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication, Dr. Joey Martin says this new center is a great opportunity to showcase the talent at Texas State.
“You know our president state very well in her address to the board of regents and also our donors that when she first came it was clear to her that our students were far better than the venues that they were performing in. So she really embraced the challenge to provide a performing space that is cutting edge and state of the art that inspires our students to even more greatness.”

An update that comes with the performing arts center is the new box office system. Audiences can now purchase tickets online and either print them out or send them to the mobile home and present them during the event they want to see. Dr. Martin says that with this new upgrade, the community doesn’t have to go far to enjoy their favorite form of art.
“What I would say especially to the students at Texas State is that they don’t have to go to Austin or San Antonio, or Houston, or New York to see fantastic concerts and productions we’ve got them right her on campus.”
– Dr. Joey Martin
A total of nine performances have already been scheduled for the rest of the spring semester. For more information you can visit Texas State fine arts website.
