Twenty-year-old Steven Carlos Hernandez was arrested Thursday evening for the shooting of store clerk Patrick William Reilly. Hernandez was found on Clovis Barker Road by the San Marcos Police Department and the Hays County SWAT team.

San Marcos Police Department Chief Stapp said Hernandez’s arrest was a contribution from the public.

“The tips came from members from the public who felt they recognized him from the video. The T-shirt was helpful because it was a very unique T-shirt that did make it easier for some people to identify him,” Stapp said.

Reilly is found in good condition said Stapp. The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges may be added as evidence continues to be evaluated.

“Mr. Hernandez has not been cooperative in speaking with us, so I don’t know what his motive was,” said Stapp. “Generally, in a robbery situation like that, the motive is theft of some kind, whether it be money or product from the store or whatever, but he’s not being forthcoming along those lines.”

Two unreported robberies from Gotta Habbit Smoke Shop are also under investigation.
