With a new defensive coordinator for the Texas State football team, safety Germod Williams hopes this season the defense can accomplish a major objective.

Germod Williams: Just to have the number one defense in the conference. I want my whole defense to be good and I want everybody to be successful.

Williams, a sophomore from Shreveport, La., notices the adjustments he needs to make to contribute to the success of the defense.

GW: Keeping my hips low when I get tired. That helped me a lot ‘cause whenever it comes down to being fatigued, and a lot of people get very lazy in their techniques, so I feel like that’s helping me a lot.

His parents, friends and mentors show support and continue to push him to be successful both on and off the field.

GW: Keep doin’ what I’m doin’. Keep being a good leader. Keep being an open word for everybody and make sure I keep God first, like always.

A fact some people may not know about Williams is that he is a caring, selfless guy.

GW: [Laughs] A lot of people, they say I look mean. I guess ‘cause my tattoos and all that stuff, but I’m actually a nice, nice, nice, nice, caring guy. I put everybody before me before I do anything.

Williams said there is one specific drink he has to have before a game.

GW: I gotta drink all my Powerade, my loaded Powerade that’s filled with salt. I have to finish it. I feel like if I don’t finish it, then I’m not gonna play to my full potential.

One thing Williams enjoys most about playing football is the game itself, specifically the physicality of the game.

GW: Just the game, just being physical. You can do some physical stuff on the field that you can’t do out in the regular world, you know. You can let loose.

After making the interception, which sealed the Bobcats’ win against Idaho in the Homecoming game, Williams described the feeling as a blessing.
