Miller Middle School was on lock down after a woman called the San Marcos Police Department yesterday afternoon saying that her ex-boyfriend was making various threats, including a threat to shoot a school. Miller Middle School was set as a potential target. The suspect was detained at the school’s parking lot with no harm to the public. No charges have been made yet and the suspect’s identity has not been released. Trey Hatt, City of San Marcos spokesman, said the arrest of the suspect was a collaboration among the community and school officers.

Austin-based filmmaker Richard Linklater’s “spiritual sequel” to “Dazed and Confused,” “That’s What I’m Talking About,” filmed on campus today. The movie follows the first four days of a college freshman. Producer Ginger Sledge said the production chose to shoot at Texas State because the movie’s crew is primarily from Texas. Sledge said they’ll be shooting around Texas State and the San Marcos area for the next week.

San Marcos’ Development Services Department is kicking off Code Rodeo Week, an opportunity for residents to provide input on the city’s new land development code, at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 in the San Marcos Activity Center. The week-long event includes rapid and intense workshops during which residents, city staff and consultants work together to align the code to the city’s master plan, adopted in April 2013.

Secretary of State Nadita Berry is campaigning to remind Texans that early voting in person for general elections will begin Monday. To cast ballots, San Marcos residents must have a form of photo identification. Accepted form of identification include a Texas drivers license, personal ID card, concealed handgun license; a U.S. military ID card that contains the person’s photograph, a citizenship certificate or a passport. Voters can contact their county elections office to locate the most convenient polling place for them. Election day is Nov. 4.

The San Marcos Public Library will be hosting their semi-annual Fall Book Sale this weekend at the City Park Rec Hall. The sale started at 10 a.m. today and will last until 6 p.m. The sale continued Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds go to the library.

Texas State’s Mass Comm Week begins Monday.This annual four-day conference, hosted by the university’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will feature 35 events with at least 35 professionals speaking about issues, trends and careers in mass media. These speakers will represent the fields of journalism, advertising, public relations, digital media and more.
