There are KTSW employees that push it to the limit and further. Every month each of the station’s directors choose one or two people within their department that have stood out from their fellow employees.
These go-getters are recognized for their work and dedication with the honorary title of “Champion of the Month.”
I asked Erica Tice a few questions about winning this month’s award for her work with Other Side Drive. (Tice also works in the music and programming departments.)

Adam Cook: What is your
major, class, position at KTSW and hobbies?
Erica Tice: I am a resource and environmental studies major with a minor in chemistry and a certificate in GIS. I’m also a junior. At KTSW I’m a music reviewer, program producer alongside Brandon Henderson for The Local Show and host OSD on Tuesdays with Ryan Motley. Some of my hobbies include crocheting, cross stitching, baking, hiking, concert going and photography.

AC: How do you feel about earning the “Champion Of The Month” title?
ET: I was so excited to earn the “Champion Of The Month” title for OSD. I really wasn’t expecting it. It was nice to realize that the work you do here at KTSW doesn’t go unrecognized, even the little stuff.

AC: Why did you join KTSW?
ET: I joined KTSW because I’ve been listening to the station since I was in high school. I feel like KTSW helped shape who I am musically, which I feel really defines who I am. Since the station had been a part of my daily routine for so many years, I really wanted to become a part of KTSW myself and maybe I’ll get to be a part of another young adult’s musical experience.

AC: What have you gained/learned while working at KTSW?
ET: While working at KTSW I’ve become more vocal and outgoing. From being on air I’ve become more comfortable talking to and approaching others. Interviews though (are) still not perfect (but) are no longer something I’m terrified of doing.

AC: What would you tell others about KTSW to motivate others to apply?
ET: I would tell people who are considering applying to KTSW about all of the opportunities the station gives its volunteers. There are so many opportunities for interviewing bands at music venues, lots of media coverage options for various music festivals and, depending on what you’re interested in, each department has it’s own perks. You also get to meet a lot of cool, like-minded people who you may not otherwise get to interact with (especially if your major is outside of Mass Com like mine).

AC: Anything you would like to say to/about the person that gave you the award?
ET: I’d just like to thank you (Fernando “Fern” Espinosa). Not only for the award but for always being so motivating and positive; it’s inspiring. Being a part of your team truly is a privilege.
