There are KTSW employees that push it to the limit and further. Every month each of the station’s directors choose one or two people within their department that have stood out from their fellow employees.

These go-getters are recognized for their work and dedication with the honorary title of “Champion of the Month.”

I asked Caleb-Ryan Davis a few questions about winning this month’s award for his work with the sports department.

Holly Henrichsen: What is your major, classification, position at KTSW and hobbies?
Caleb-Ryan Davis: My major is mass communication. I’m a junior, and my position at KTSW is Bobcat Radio personality and sports announcer. My hobbies include watching baseball, playing music and exploring Netflix.

HH: How do you feel about earning the “Champion of the Month” title?
CRD: I was really surprised whenever I was given “Champion of the Month.” I think that it’s a title that some people might overlook and not take too seriously, but it’s something that I was very honored to receive. I’ve worked really hard at this station since I started in the spring of 2014, and it feels great to know that Warren recognized that and liked what I’ve been doing.

HH: Why did you join KTSW?
CRD: I joined KTSW to get experience covering Division I sports and build upon my experiences as a fan that I’ve had with sports in the past.

HH: What have you learned while working at KTSW?
CRD: While working here I’ve gotten the opportunity to learn about putting yourself to the side for the betterment of the team or, in this case, the station. There’s a lot of positions and assignments that you have here at the station that are far from being in the spotlight, and you’ve got to learn how to be a team player and encourage the other people around you that are here to get experience just as much as you. It’s about making the best product possible, and I think that this semester, specifically, we’ve done a great job at making a really good product.

HH: What would you tell others about KTSW to motivate others to apply?
CRD: The thing that I would tell others about KTSW is to not look at it as a resume builder because you can get that anywhere. I would tell them that the thing that KTSW provides is a family of people who just love radio and learning new things. Lastly, get out there and don’t be afraid to say hello to people. Play the intramurals, ask people how their day is going in the lobby, anything you can do to just let people remember who you are, and nurture a friendship at the same time is going to keep you going places and you’re going to enjoy it while you’re doing it.

HH: Anything you would like to say to the person who gave you the award?
CRD: The thing that I would like to say to Warren is thank you for giving me the opportunity to try new things and be a fundamental part of the sports staff and of this station altogether. I’ve made memories and friends here that I hope I never forget and I absolutely look forward to making plenty more.
