More than 5 million people may possibly find relief after President Barack Obama gave his speech yesterday ordering executive action on immigration. Obama is pressuring the GOP to pass and cooperate with a broader immigration bill. Mostly parents and young undocumented citizens will be impacted by Obama’s decision, which will give them an opportunity to have legal temporary status in the U.S.The immigration reform will slow down deportation giving milllions of people a chance of legal status who meet qualifications. This includes having a clean criminal background and learning English.

Earlier this morning Texas State’s University Police Department received a delayed report of a robbery at the west side parking lot of Bobcat Stadium located at Aquarena Springs Drive. The victim reported that the robbery took place late last night and described the suspect as a Hispanic male with a light complexion. He was wearing a navy blue hoodie and a gray cap and may have bruises on the right side of his face. He left the area by foot in an unknown direction.

Bobcat fans were rewarded for their patience last night as Texas State won it’s sixth game of the season, dominating Arkansas State with a final score of 45:27.

Texas State University Police found a suspicious backpack following an evacuation of the Undergraduate Academic Center on campus yesterday. No gun was found anywhere. The police are questioning a male person of interest. He is not a Texas State student. A second suspect was questioned and released shortly afterward. There is no active threat and university operations continue as normal.  The suspect in question in now in Hays County Jail on possible drug charges. 

Texas Department of Transportation will be closing the northbound lane on the McCarthy exit 201 and the southbound lane on the Centerpoint exit 200. These lane closures will take place in the evening on Thanksgiving. The lanes will reopen on Black Friday morning. Traffic control will be in place at the intersections between the mall on Centerpoint road on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but no further lane closures will take place over the weekend.

Back in September, UPD warned students and faculty of an IRS scam, demanding money via phone calls. Now, there are new reports of incidents. The callers claim to be from the IRS, or police officers collecting money for the IRS, even using the Texas State Police Department phone number. This is a scam. Do not give any information to the caller.

House Speaker John Boehner has announced his plans to sue the Obama Administration in federal court. According to CNN, the lawsuit is due to decisions that were announced by President Obama over changes to the president’s health care law that House Republicans argue are unconstitutional. The case has been filed in U.S. District court for the District of Columbia and names both the Secretaries of the Health and Human Services and the Treasury Departments and not the President personally.
