For the second year in a row Texas State was bowl eligible, and for the second year in a row the Bobcats won’t go to a bowl game. With only three bowl tie-ins in the Sun Belt Conference and four bowl eligible teams the Bobcats were on the outside looking in. South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State will represent the Sun Belt in the three bowls.

Once the Bobcats were left out of the Sun Belt bowls they had to try and secure and at-large bid. The school was in contact with the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, the New Mexico Bowl and the Cactus Bowl.

A number of things had to go the Bobcats way on Saturday to secure an at-large bid, and when Oklahoma State beat the University of Oklahoma their bowl chances went on life support.

Even thought the Bobcats won their last two games of the season in convincing fashion (Arkansas State: 45-27; and Georgia State: 54-31) and received seven wins on the season that wasn’t enough. The South Alabama loss is the game that Bobcat fans will look back on and think what could have been if they would have been able to pull out a win in Mobile. Texas State is the only team with seven wins to be left out of a bowl game this year.

Bobcats open the 2015 season in Tallahassee as they take on the Florida State Seminoles on September 5.

TX State not having a true local following at games is not mentioned but, when the tailgating area is full with students that don’t migrate to the game; this has to be a factor in their decision. TX State has not been to a bowl and with the lack luster attendance, I am sure bowl officials did not want to gamble to have empty seats. Students and fans can piss and moan about not being selected, but I blame the local student/community in not supporting a great program.
