Today is Groundhog day where earlier Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning at approximately 7:25 a.m. Eastern Time. The sight of Phil’s shadow does imply that there will be six more weeks of winter. Though questions are raised regarding the accuracy of Phil’s forecast abilities, the current chill that has hit the east coast is hoping to act as a confirmation for Phil.

Texas State’s University Star editor-in-chief has resigned effective immediately. According to the University Star, Odus Evbagharu was not enrolled in the 2014 or 2015 semesters. The requirements for the U-Star’s editor-in-chief position is a GPA of 2.5 or above and must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Today has been declared as “Chris Kyle Day” in the state of Texas by Governor Greg Abbott in honor of the late sniper as a petition drive gets underway to consider him for the Medal of Honor. Kyle was considered to be the deadliest sniper in U.S military history. Kyle is the subject of the controversial movie, American Sniper, and Abbott says we need more patriots in our country like him. Kyle was 37 when he was killed two years ago at a North Texas gun range and today commemorates the day Kyle died.

The attack in Taliban that killed 130 students at is still reverberating across the city of Peshawar, Pakistan.The principal of Government High school Security has bumped up with high walls with barbed wires, surveillance cameras and also carries a gun to school. According to CNN, the provincial government spent 69 million dollars last month on enhancing security at government run schools and the government now allows teachers who have gun licenses to bring their weapons to school.

The San Marcos City Council meets tomorrow at 5 p.m., where they will discuss annexing the remaining section of the Wonder World Drive Extension, which is 274 acres in total. The council will also discuss enabling the Police Department to hire two additional Mental Health Officers, which will cost roughly $266,000.
