Music lovers should be on the look out, because there is something special happening. In a world of similarity, Oli Bayston’s solo project Boxed In finds a way to remain unique. Predictions are, if Boxed In keeps producing music at this caliber, that he will blow up and hit mainstream within the next five years. Bayston has played many behind the scenes roles for multiple artists, from Steve Mason to TOY, before choosing to be a solo act. He acted as the role as composer, engineer, keyboardist, and mixer; now he plays all those positions but under his sole influence and vocals. Mixing chill electric sounds and indie beats, he succeeds in making both vibe and dance music.

The debut single of the album, “Mystery,” is piano driven and hip-shaking provoking. Though it’s not a club banger, it has the same “catchiness” that made the Arctic Monkey’s blow up with “I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor”. It hit gold in the UK, and introduced them into a whole new ballpark. Boxed In, aurally, sounds nothing like Arctic Monkeys, but he has produced a solid debut just like they did.  “Sailing” is one of the best songs on the album. It’s unassuming, haunting, and it doesn’t beg for your attention.

Maybe that’s why it’s so beautiful- there’s beauty in simplicity. That can be said about the whole album. It’s fun and is the type of music you get stuck in your head with out realizing. It creeps on you. The thought of the music this man can make should excite you. “All Your Love Is Gone” pays homage to the music of New Order; it has this hazy vocal quality that just puts you in another time. Boxed In has the potential to make hit singles and sell top charting albums. This debut isn’t there yet, but it certainly puts into perspective that this guy is working with something special that in time will develop into something a larger audience would love to listen to.
