Texas High School Baseball Playoff

June has been an exciting month for Texas High school Baseball. Last week and weekend, June 10th through June 13 the Texas high school baseball state tournament was held in Round Rock , Texas. The tournament consisted of divisions 2A, 3A, 4A,5A and 6A. In the 2A division the tournament opened up with Booker 27-4 , Flatonia 23-6 , Harleton 28-2 and Crawford 25-6. Teams in the 3 A and 4 A divisions consisted of Edgewood 31-6 , Bishop 28-10-2 ,West 29-2-1 , Littlefield 22-12 representing 3A and Abilene Wylie 28-5, Argyle 28-7, El Campo  29-5  and West Orange –Stark 26-10, making up the 4A division. In the big divisions of 5A and 6A the teams consisted of Prosper 33-3, Tomball 24-11-2, Georgetown 26-12 and Aledo 24-13 making up the 5A division, while the 6A division was made up of Laredo Alexander 31-3, Arlington Martin 27-5,  Dallas Jesuit 35-3-2 and  Houston Cypress Ranch 29-6.

Opening up the tournament in the 2A division was Booker vs Flatonia. The game started with both teams scoreless until the third inning when Flatonia took the lead by scoring a run and Booker answering back in the fourth inning with two runs to take the lead from Flatonia.  In the fourth inning Flatonia tied the game up with another run to make the game tied 2-2 , but in the fifth and seventh inning stole the show with four runs in the fifth and 2 runs in the seventh and leaving Booker scoreless in the last two innings to win the game 8-2 and head onto the state championship. At 12:00 pm later that day Crawford played Harleton and won 7-4 moving on to the state championship. Division 2A wrapped up with a close match as Crawford got out to an early lead in the first inning scoring two runs in the first and scoring another run later in the third making the game 3-0 and leaving Flatonia with no runs until the sixth inning when Flatonia answered back with 2 runs and then adding another 2 runs in the seventh to end the game and win by one run and clinch the 2A state championship winning the game 4-3.

In the 3A division later that afternoon the semifinals opened up with Edgewood vs Bishop.  Edgewood led the game early with 2 runs in the second inning and Bishop came back with a run in the third then dominating the sixth and seventh inning with 2 runs each inning and leaving Edgewood scoreless the rest of the game to win 5-2 moving onto the state championship. The Second game of the 3A division state playoffs was a contest between West and Littlefield in this game West dominated Little Field with a final score of 8-3 and went on to the state championship to play Bishop. In the 3A state finals West started the game with 3 runs and Bishop came back with 2 runs of their own leaving the first inning with one run separating the two teams.  West started the third inning with another run making the game 4-2 until Bishop scored another run in the seventh inning but falling short by a run leaving the final score 4-3 with West winning the 3A state championship and giving the town of West, Texas something to believe in.

The 4A division semifinals opened up with Abilene Wylie vs Argyle and Argyle defeated Abilene Wylie by a final score of 9-4 moving on to the state finals. In the second game of the state semifinals West Orange-Stark played El Campo and shutout El Campo 8-0 and headed off to the state finals.  In the state finals championship Argyle played West Orange-Stark. Argyle defeated West-Orange Stark by a final margin of 7-3 to claim the 4A state championship.

The state semifinals of boys 5A and 6A opened up with Prosper vs Tomball and in this contest Prosper showed that Tomball was no match for them winning the game and heading to the state championship by a final score of 6-2. In the other semifinals of 5A Georgetown played Aledo and blew them out 8-2 taking the victory and heading to the state championship. This state championship contest was a blow out with Prosper showing Georgetown was no match for them winning the state final 8-0. The boys 6A state semifinals opened up with Laredo Alexander playing Arlington Martin . In this contest the score was a close race with Arlington Martin coming out with the victory with a final score of 3-2 heading to the state championship. Later that day Dallas Jesuit played Houston Cypress Ranch also being a close game and the final score ended with Houston Cypress Ranch winning 2-1 and going on to the championship.

This month wrapped up with an exciting contest for all the boys divisions. Each division had its share of close games and races until the finish with every team competing well in each game. At the end only five teams would be able to claim the prize as state champions. In boys 2A and 3A, Flatonia and West went home with the trophy and in divisions 4A ,5A and 6A , Argyle, Prosper and Houston Cypress Ranch claimed the state title.
