Jaliyah Bolden was recently named to the Crosstown Challenge All-Tournament Team during the SMU/TCU Crosstown Challenge. This is Bolden’s first year starting for Texas State volleyball under head coach Karen Chisum.

Kiersten Ehr: Who or what inspired you to start playing volleyball?

Jaliyah Bolden: My dad inspired me. I played basketball forever. Then third grade is when I started volleyball. I started to play just as something to do with my friends, and I actually really started to like it.

KE: Who is your role model?

JB: My parents for sure, they support me in everything. It’s the most cliche thing to say, but they are always at every game including driving and flying to every game.

KE: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

JB: Whenever you’re tired that’s when you push through. The tired plays are the plays that make the games.

KE: How has the transition been for you transferring from Colorado State to Texas State?

JB: Hot. I’m from Texas but the weather is completely different. Good thing we play an indoor sport, because the court, the atmosphere between here and Colorado State is completely different. The coaches are way more engaged here. The players are way more competitive, and it’s a great atmosphere to be around.

KE: What do you love about San Marcos?

JB: Being close to home honestly. I love the girls on the team and the environment in Texas State volleyball.

KE: What do you like to do in your free time other then play volleyball?

JB: Sleeping and eating and hanging out with my teammates.

KE:What are your top songs on your playlist?

JB: Party Up by DMX, Ride With Me by Nelly, and Blessing by Good John.

KE: If you could have any job in the world what would it be?

JB: To be a sports marketer.

KE: If you could have any superpowers in the world what would it be and why?

JB: To fly. I actually really love Marvel characters. I love Super Man

KE: What is your favorite movie?

JB: The Avengers or any Marvel movie actually.

KE: Favorite food/midnight snack?

JB: Pickles, I love pickles.

KE: What gets you pumped up before games?

JB: We always have a dance party. We will play Jimmy Paul or Little Sally Walker. That way it makes you really close with your teammates.
