NaNoWrimo has officially kicked off November 1st, and writers are typing away each day an estimated word count of 1,667 words and an overall word count of 50,000 by the end of November. Reaching the word count will mean you have won yourself the appropriate bragging right to say you have written a novel in just one solid month.

You may be asking yourself: what is NaNoWriMo? NaNoWriMo is a quirky abbreviation for National Novel Writing Month, a tradition that was established by Chris Baty in San Francisco in 1999, with only twenty-one participants, and has since then expanded by the gracious donations of writers and doers alike.

If you miss a day, don’t fret!

You still have time to set up your profile, come up with a title for your novel and submit a synopsis for a chance to win free cover art for your story. Neat-o.

Why should you know what NaNoWriMo is?

it’s a great way to stay engaged with creative connections via a single website while you would also be receiving support, feedback, and inspiration for your personal goals.

Why should you care about it if you have no writing aspirations?

This creative event is not only a good way to spark the inner creative genius in you, but to provide a different sort of communication platform without actual communication as the main attraction of the site.

Whether you have a story or don’t, you would essentially write for yourself with the resounding support of writers globally.

I won’t fail to mention the perks to having completed your very own novel, aside from the chance of winning some cool cover art that can attract readers. Writers also have sponsored competitions within the competition and even a way to move forward with your novel after you’ve won.

Essentially, everyone is a winner if they reach the word count by the end of November 30, but attempting to step out of your comfort zone while divulging in this creative experience makes it possible to open doors into areas you haven’t yet visited in the realm of creating.

The process of committing to writing  a little over 1,500 words a day for thirty days straight can be intimidating and understandably so. However, fear not, for it will be a great personal achievement that is bound to inspire you further. Maybe you’ll start off wanting the therapeutic essence of the process and to simply write about your thoughts. It’s possible that as a result, you may end up writing novel of the year.

Good luck and welcome aboard.
