San Marcos welcomed the Greater Randolph Area Trail Riders to town Tuesday, February 8, from 11:30 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. in honor of their annual week long trail ride. The seven-day trail ride starts in Buda and ends in San Antonio.
San Marcos Director of Communications and Intergovernmental Relations Kristi Wyatt, explains why the convoy passed through San Marcos.
“Every year the Greater Randolph Area Trail Riders, do a ride,” Wyatt said. “It’s actually a week long ride to the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. Now they start in Kyle and then they go through Buda and back to San Marcos and then to New Braunfels and Schertz. Here in San Marcos, we like to welcome them and encourage them on their journey and we watch them as they go through our area.”
The Trail Riders are part of the GRA-TRAils non-profit organization which promotes family fun, fellowship and the love of horses.
The organization hosts several trail rides throughout the year and offers a scholarship to help benefit the towns and communities local to Hays County.
The organization also attends local Volunteer Fire Department auctions and supports local animal shelters and families in need.
Their next stop will be in New Braunfels, though it is hard to say exactly when they will arrive since the riders are on horseback.
