In their return to Strahan Coliseum, The Texas State Bobcats trailed for almost the entire contest and ultimately fell to the Troy Trojans 88-73.

The Bobcats had a hard time getting their shots to fall as they shot just 25 of 71 from the field. The three-ball was in particularly ineffective as the Bobcats went 9 of 30 from beyond the arc.

The Bobcats managed to cut the deficit within single digits during the third quarter after Taeler Deer connected on a three-pointer with under four minutes left.  Heading into the fourth, the Bobcats were within striking distance only down by 12 with a 58-46 score.

Troy would eventually pull away on the heels of a 6-0 run to begin the quarter and increase their lead 64-46. Texas State would retaliate with their on 5-0 run midway in the fourth, but for every run the Bobcats went on, Troy had an answer.

Turnovers proved to be the Achilles’ heel for the Bobcats as they had 18 on the night forced by Troy. Troy outscored the Bobcats in the paint 36-24 and had the upper hand for most of the game.

When Coach Z was asked about her takeaways from one of the final games of the season, she replied, “ I took away that we can only do a good job playing two or three quarters, but there’s always that one quarter that gets away from us and ends up biting us in the butt. We’re still chasing, I don’t care that we have one game left before we go to New Orleans or if we have ten, we always have to continue to get better!”

The loss drops the Bobcats to 7-12 in Sun-Belt play, however the Bobcats are still entrenched in the Sun-Belt Conference Tournament. The women will have their regular season finale this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum versus the South Alabama Jaguars. With a win the Bobcats will finish as the 7th seed in the Sun-Belt, a loss will drop the Bobcats to the 8th spot.
