Update 04/06/16:

Two San Marcos residents have been arrested in connection with the defacing of the iconic Enchanted Rock.

Charles Agawereh, 24, and Meredith Baird, 21, were arrested by the Texas Game Wardens and San Marcos Police Department earlier today and are currently facing felony charges for graffiti and narcotics.

The pair were nabbed after The Texas Park and Wildlife office contacted a local San Marcos police officer who recognized the individuals from previous encounters.

The pair are accused of painting graffiti on the south face of the summit at Enchanted Rock State Park near Fredericksburg. The incident occurred on March 20.

Additional charges are pending.

In a photo on the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area Facebook page, a couple is seen standing next to a rock that is tagged with “Ca$h Truck”.

The posting also included a message stating the two suspects are suspected to be San Marcos residents and were seen at the rock on Sunday, March 20 between 3-5 p.m.

The Facebook post has been taken down since it’s original posting on Monday, March 21.

However, Enchanted Rock management is not certain who the residents are or where they are from, but an eyewitness to the scene revealed to management that they believe the two are from the San Marcos area and attend Texas State University.

“We went with what our eyewitness said to us,” said Doug Cochran, Superintendent of Enchanted Rock. “We’re not automatically assuming they go to Texas State or are from the San Marcos area. That’s what we’re following up on.”

Cochran also said it is too early in the investigation process to determine where the suspects are from.

“I did not talk to the witness. We are still at the investigation part of this process, so we’re following up on all leads and were acting on the best information that we have,” Cochran said.

Cochran said he cannot comment on how the investigation process will work with the information he currently has and cannot provide any updates on how the investigation is going.

According to the Enchanted Rock State National Park website, Enchanted Rock opened as a state natural area in October 1978 where approximately 250,000 people visit the park year round, making it one of the most visited parks in the state of Texas park system.
