Bobcat Baseball Players Making Waves in Summer Leagues

Bobcat baseball players saw a strong week in their respective summer leagues, logging three game-ending hits.

Mickey Scott brought in the final run of  the record 17-inning game with a sacrifice fly on Saturday. Scott’s Almonte Springs Boom beat the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs in the Florida Collegiate Summer League’s longest game ever. Scott has six hits, two RBIs and six runs scored in seven games this year while playing third base and first base. The Boom are third in the league with a 9-7 record.

Derek Scheible and Theodore Hoffman both had game-ending hits this week for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms in the Coastal Plain league.

Hoffman had a strong performance Wednesday against the Martinsville Mustangs, ending with a walk-off single in the 10th inning. He went 3-5 with two RBIs and a run scored in the game. In 12 games this summer, he has 15 hits, six runs, three RBIs while maintaining a .326 average.

Scheible stole the show on Friday against the Florence Redwolves, hitting a walk-off grand slam to end the game in the bottom of the 10th inning. Scheible finished the game with two hits, two runs and five RBIs. In 11 games, Scheible has 14 hits, ten runs and three home runs with a .318 average. He has complemented his offensive production with no errors from the outfield.

Scheible and Hoffman have pushed the HiToms to a 16-7 record, putting them as second in the Coastal Plains League’s West Division.

Texas State baseball may be over, but that is not stopping the Bobcats from representing their school on the diamond.
