Texas State Defeats SFA in First Game of Creeds & Crest Classic

SAN MARCOS — Texas State defeated Stephen F. Austin State University 3-1 Friday morning in the first game of the Creed & Crest classic.

SFA surprised Texas State at the start of the match taking the first set 25-21. Texas State answered back by taking the next three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-20. Texas State dominated the match by leading over SFA in points, kills, aces, blocks, assists and digs.

Jordan Kohl lead Texas State with 20 kills alongside Kelsey Weynand, who has 19 kills on the game. SFA’s leading kill leader was tied between Peyton Redmond and Danae Daron with both nine kills each.

Kohl had a game leading three blocks while Emily Shelton was everywhere on the court with a game high 35 assists.

Texas State was once trailing in the second set 19-16 before going on to take that set 25-22 and not looking back the rest of the match.

Texas State now moves onto 2-3 on the season and plays again Friday night in the classic against Kennesaw State at 7 p.m from Strahan Coliseum before wrapping up against Tulsa at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
