Texas State Volleyball Defeats UT Arlington 3-1

The Bobcat volleyball team won in Strahan Coliseum Tuesday night against UT Arlington Mavericks 3-1 (25-23, 25-25, 23-25, 25-23).

Texas State took the first set 25-23 after being down against the Mavericks 23-19, before taking the last six points to win the set. Jaliyah Bolden led with five kills, Lauren Kirch had four kills and Kelsey Weynand and Megan Porter had three kills each. Erin Hoppe had 14 assist in the first set.

In the second set, the Mavericks started out up 3-0 and led most of the second set. The Bobcats tied it up at 19-19, but the Mavericks went back and were up 23-21 before dropping the last four points to the Bobcats to lose the set 25-23. Bobcats went into the third set up 2-0. Through two sets, Bolden had eight kills, while Porter followed with seven and Kirch had six of her own. Hoppe had 27 assist through two sets.

In the third set, the Mavericks went up 5-1 but then dropped the next seven out of eight points to be down 8-6 to the Bobcats. For a while, the Mavericks were coming in within a few points, but could never tie it. With the Bobcats up 22-19, the Mavericks wouldn’t quit and brought it back to win 25-23.

In the fourth set UT Arlington started out up 5-2. As the set continued, it was much of the same as the Mavericks went up 9-5. Then, the Mavericks continued to go up 12-8. The Bobcats rallied to take a 16-15 lead. After some back-and-forth play, the Mavericks took a 21-17 lead. The Bobcats kept fighting to only be down one by 22-21. After dropping a point to go down 23-21, the Bobcats come back to tie it 23-23. The Bobcats took the last two points to win 25-23.

Bolden lead with 16 kills, Kirch had 13 kills and Morgan Lewis had 10 kills. Hoppe had 54 assists. Micah Dinwiddie led with 34 digs. Kirch led with four blocks. For UT Arlington, Kylie Jedlicka had 15 kills and Zhanelle Geathers had 12 kills. Cassidy Wheeler had 38 assists. Geathers and Jedlicka both had six blocks. Libbie Vickers led the team with 21 digs.

Texas State will remain home for its next outing, as they play host to UL Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28.
