Impacting the Community Through College Radio

From a member of society’s perspective, making change in the community always seemed like something that required you to volunteer at your local library, contribute money to certain organizations, or donate supplies to a local shelter. Although these are beneficial actions that can be done to affect the community, they are not the only ones. In fact, working at the KTSW college radio station is a unique and fun way to make an impact, but not many people know this. Here are some ways that your local radio station impacts you that you might not be aware of.

Keeping Up with Sports and News

With hectic schedules that consist of school and/or work, it may be hard to keep up with current events and watch games that you wish you could go to. College radio keeps everything orderly. Instead of going to multiple websites to find local news and game recaps, you can visit our blog and check out our sports and news pages. You won’t have to ask around to find out about current events; the information is always easily accessible to you.

Staying Aware of Local Events

San Marcos can be quite a busy town with all of the festivals and fun events we have. Sometimes they can be hard to keep up with, so we end up missing some really amazing performances and activities. This is leads to another beneficial impact that college radio has on the community: helping us stay aware of local events. Whether you are listening in on 89.9 or just checking out our event portion of our blog, you can find background knowledge on each event in a different but entertaining way. There usually ends up being more than one post on an event, so expect to be fully prepared for wherever you decide to go.

When there is an array of topics you want to research and learn about, you may find yourself on google more than usual. It is hard to find websites that cover everything from beauty related to politics, but KTSW does.
