When asked the question “Where do you want to be in 10 years?”, we all have an idea of what we want our lives to look like. We think about what house or apartment we want to have, what city we want to live in, how much money we want to make and more. Usually, we think about the future broadly and we don’t really get into specifics of how we want to be living. This is why it is important to start a vision board, which allows to put down how you want your life to look like, motivating you to achieve those goals so you end up manifesting them. The more you look at pictures of where you want to be, the more you envision living that life; therefore, you are able to think positively and attract your goals even faster. Although this may seem a bit confusing at first, here are some steps on how to do it.

Choose Where You Want It

Some people prefer to create their vision board online, while others would rather physically have it with them. I personally prefer to have mine on Pinterest because you have the option of making the board private or public and have access to an endless supply of pictures. For those of you who prefer to have a physical vision board, I suggest getting a cork board or a picture album where you can keep photos. You can put in your bathroom, in your room, or even in your kitchen as long as it is somewhere you will regularly notice.

Write Down Where You See Yourself

Before picking your photos, it is crucial to know where you see yourself. You don’t have to be entirely specific, but you do have to visualize important aspects that you want to see in the future. Think about where you want to work, where you want to live, if you want be single or not, and what you would be doing on a yearly basis. You can write it down in statements or just randomly jot down different things you want in bullet points.

Find Photos

Now that you know what you want your life to look like, you can now choose what photos you want on your vision board. Through Pinterest, I usually look up keywords or get recommendations and pin the ones that I feel represent me the most. If you are doing a physical vision board, I would Google photos that resonate with you the most, print them out and arrange them according to how you want them to look. Sometimes people will place photos in order of how they want their future to happen, and other times people will scatter them on the board. It all depends on your personal preference.

Look at Your Board Constantly

After creating your vision board, it may be tempting to forget about it. This is why you want to place your vision board where you will see it when you wake up or when you are about to go to sleep. The board acts as a reminder so you can keep working hard to achieve your goals, but if you aren’t seeing it on a daily basis, finding motivation may be a bit difficult. Take the time to be mindful and look at your board for a few seconds out of the day or spend at least 10 minutes on Pinterest pinning new photos or glancing through the photos you have already pinned.

Be Patient

We may find ourselves in a hurry to achieve all the goals that we placed on our board. There have been a few times where I find myself impatiently asking when I’m going to get what I asked for or why are my goals taking so long. The key thing to remember when asking for something you want is to be patient. Look at your board for help with motivation or to aid you with envisioning your future, but don’t get too caught up in getting to the future. Enjoy where you are now so you can appreciate where you are later, when you see each item you put down come to reality.
