Finally, at long last, temperatures are kinda, sorta starting to cool; school in session and football is on TV. That’s right, fall is back and better than ever. Although summer is over, there is not necessarily a void of entertainment for central Texans. In fact, fall is when some of the most unique and iconic events in the area take place.

SMTX Mermaid S.P.L.A.S.H.: September 8-22

Come celebrate all things San Marcos with this two-week, mermaid-themed festival. Some of the events include: a ‘mer-tini’ competition, a parade and an all-day art and music festival on September 22.

For more information visit Mermaid Society SMTX’s Website.

Third Thursday Concert Series: September 20, October 18, November 16

Though not only a fall event, KTSW will host its Third Thursday Concert Series every, you guessed it, third Thursday of the month at KIVA Lounge in San Marcos.

First Friday Block Party SMTX: October 5, November 2, December 7

Another day of the month specific event, this block party features a pop-up market and live music held on the first Friday of every month at West Hopkins in San Marcos.

I mean, I wouldn’t want to miss out on this!

Austin City Limits Festival: October 5-7 and 12-14

A spiritual spin-off of the legendary public broadcast show by the same name, Austin City Limits has become one of the most renowned music festivals in the world. The two-weekend festival, located in scenic Zilker Park in Austin, attracts some of the biggest names in the music industry. This year is no different with Paul McCartney, Travis Scott and Arctic Monkeys listed as some of the headliners.

Tickets are still available. For a full lineup visit their website.

Mala Luna Music Festival: October 27-28

Mala Luna has garnered quite a reputation in only its third year of existence. The San Antonio music festival has been able to land some of the biggest artists in the rap world in previous years. They’ll look to top last year’s event with names like Cardi B, Tyler, the Creator and Lil Pump headlining.

Visit their website for full lineup and ticket information.

Lost River Film Festival: November 1-4

Lost River is a delightful little film festival right here in San Marcos. The festival is a four-day long love letter to indie cinema by the San Marcos Cinema Club.

Wurstfest: November 2-11
