The biggest news from this past weekend was Texas State’s firing of their Head Football Coach, Everett Withers. The news came at the same time the volleyball team won the Sun Belt Tournament title and earning a trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2013.

In this exclusive phone interview, I spoke with President Denise Trauth and Athletic Director Larry Teis on the decision to fire Withers and why the news broke at such an unusual time.

We hope you enjoy this KTSW Exclusive!

Yet more re-arranging of the deck chairs… Just like the last “interview” it should be readily obvious where the problems with out University lie.

Denise Trauth, you mentioned that it’s important that the athletic department have strong ticket sales and donor support in order to be financially sustainable. I can tell you that you are not doing your legacy any favors keeping Larry Teis in office.

Pay attention to your Alumni, your Students, your Athletes, your corporate Donors, and the those on the outside looking in before this failure overshadows every accomplishment you have achieved in your career.

There is absolutely no excuse for Texas State to routinely make the “Bottom 10” list among 130 FBS programs given our size, location, and resources. I rescinded my financial support years ago and will continue to withhold it so long as rank amateurs are allowed to mismanage the football program for years without consequence. Fans should not be expected to support any football program with such a long history of administrative isolation and under performance on the field. Players and fans both deserve better and the these times demand the bold changes that any other reasonable FBS program would undertake. Can our image and brand even be salvaged at this point? It’s up to you President Trauth…
