How to Avoid Spoilers

With the premiere of season eight of “Game of Thrones” and the recent release of “Avengers: Endgame,” I have been dodging spoilers all over social media. Whether it’s flat out details that you catch by accident or memes without context, there are spoilers everywhere you turn.

My Twitter feed luckily is full of “Game of Thrones” references which I can relate to because I am caught up on the series. However, the “Endgame” tweets have me zooming through social media so I don’t have my heart broken before I even see the film.

I was naïve enough to believe that everyone would follow the request from the Russo brothers to stay silent about the film till it has been out long enough for everyone to see it. This has not been the case, and fans clearly haven’t listened to Thanos when he demanded our silence. It would be helpful if posts could have a warning marked “SPOILER ALERT” before you have a chance to read their content.

To those who have seen the movies and episodes, I congratulate you on making time to see these once-in-a-lifetime cinematic feats, however, not everyone has had the same chance. Finals are just around the corner and some students haven’t been able to get out of study mode long enough to go see “Endgame” or sit down and watch an hour and a half episode of “Game of Thrones”.

Having respect for the fans who are late to the game is important. We have been waiting for “Endgame” for over a year and anticipating the emotional distress. The same goes for the “Game of Thrones” fans, it’s hard to stay quiet about things that are so important and a topic of conversation right now but taking a second to not tweet a spoiler is all we ask.

Muting words on Twitter is a way to avoid having spoilers on your feed. Even giving up social media till you can experience the film or show on your own is a good idea. I have had to unfollow some of actors I keep up with, because they are sending out spoilers also. Do what ever you think is best to keep from having these exciting events ruined for you.

To all those who are in the same boat as me, stay strong and avoid those spoilers! We will have our answers soon enough. To those who have seen “Endgame” already, thank you for making it the largest box office opening of all time. “Game of Thrones” is ending also and it has been an amazing ride, but we must appreciate what has been done and accept that every good thing must end.
