San Marcos River Foundation was established in 1985 with the purpose of caring and preserving the San Marcos River. The foundation focuses on ensuring and improving the water quality of aquifers and protecting the beauty of parks. The foundation also participates in the city’s annual clean ups.

Last Thursday, the San Marcos River Foundation announced Virginia Condie as the new executive director. Director Condie has already been a part of the foundation, serving as their former vice president. She is familiar with the roles and duties of her new position. She has great knowledge about the problems being an avid river floater herself.

Director Condie states, “The rate at which San Marcos is growing, we are at risk of bad development. So, we have to make sure it’s done in a really wise manner.” Director Condie is a Texas A&M graduate with a biomedical science degree and has a wide variety of experience under her belt.

After the floods affected the area in 2015, Director Condie put together a flood relief group called the BR3T (Blanco River Recovery Team). The group was dedicated to helping individuals through long term disaster relief. The BR3T incorporates four counties and is the first organization of its kind in Texas. Director Condie also has extensive knowledge in sales and real estate, and will be able to transfer that knowledge to the conservation programs dedicated to the betterment of San Marcos’ greenspaces.
