10 Things to do in San Marcos This Fall Season

It’s fall time in the Hill Country. That means cool weather, pumpkin patches and football. When it becomes too cold for Sewell, don’t get bored sitting inside! There are plenty of things to do in San Marcos to get that fall feeling going. Here are some things to do around the San Marcos area this fall season.

1. Texas State University’s Mass Comm Week

Mass Communication Week is Oct. 14-18 this year on Texas State University’s campus. Come listen to panels with industry-leaders or attend workshops like resume building and salary negotiating. The panels are open for everyone to attend! Check out the packed schedule on Mass Comm Week website.

2. Gamedays

What’s more fall than tailgating college football games! Texas State University football is in full-swing and attending the games can even get you a chance at winning a Mercedes! Check out the football schedule on the athletics website and find out how you can win a new car for supporting our Cats!

3. Halloween Movie Trivia Night

Do you love Halloween classics? Well come test your knowledge at Halloween movie trivia night on Oct. 22 at Hops & Grain San Marcos. Questions will be covering all the best classic Halloween movies, but not the scary ones. Some of the movies included in the trivia are “Hocus Pocus,” “Nightmare Before Christmas,” “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,” “The Addams Family,” “The Craft,” “Halloweentown,” and more. 4. Marc Shows

5. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

What’s more fall than picking out your own pumpkins at a Hill Country pumpkin patch? There are lots of choices from North Austin all the way to San Antonio. Grab some friends and pick a place for hay-rides, corn-mazes and of course, lots of perfect pumpkins!

6. SixFlags Fiesta Texas Fright Fest

What’s more thrilling than roller coasters and haunted houses – at the same time? SixFlags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio has Fright Nights on select days Sept. 21-Nov. 3. But beware, there is no place to hide from the scary!

7. Gruene Music and Wine Fest

Oct. 10-13 is the 33rd annual Gruene Music, Wine and Craft Beer Fest. If you’re 21 and up, come to the historic town of Gruene for some shopping, drinking and eating to great local music. Find more information about the festival, Texas Tasting & Tunes, on the Gruene event website.

8. Music Festivals!

Music festival season may be during the spring and summer, but every Texan knows the best time to go to music festivals is fall time! Some upcoming music festivals in Texas include Mala Luna, Utopia, and Freaky Deaky. Check up on the KTSW website for ticket discounts and announcements.

9. Halloween Movie Marathon

Sometimes a good night-in binging Halloween movies is all you need to get into the fall mood. Freeform has 31-nights-of-Halloween movies for all of October. Don’t have cable? Check out the extensive list of on-demand movies on Hulu’s Huluween or Netflix’s Netflix and Chills sections. Crack open a pumpkin spice beer and mix some popcorn with candy corn and you’re set for a great night indoors from the chilly weather.

10. Food Truck Fest

Come to the heart of San Marcos for a delicious day full of food truck tastings! Come on Sunday, Oct. 20 to 119 S. Edward Gary street for a pop-up petting zoo, full bar, food tent and trucks and lots of vendors. Who doesn’t love trying many different foods at once?

Fall season is just starting, so mark your calendars to keep your season full of lots of fun times with friends. You’ll be thankful you did!
