What to Expect from Texas State Newcomer Tristan McCraw

The Texas State Bobcats are coming off a short yet successful season in hopes of continuing their momentum with the return of seniors and newcomers like Tristan McCraw.

The twenty-year-old Magnolia, Texas native, is one of the new transfers to Texas State.

McCraw made his baseball debut during his senior year of high school at Magnolia West, pitching only one inning. After graduation, McCraw walked on at Cisco College where fellow Bobcat Will Hollis also found a start in college baseball. 

McCraw appeared in nine games, recording nine strikeouts in eight innings of play at Wichita State University. McCraw kept batters to a .333 batting average while giving up seven runs and twelve hits with an ERA of 7.88 during the 2019 season.

During the 2020 season, McCraw focused on training and taking classes full time. McCraw developed his technique and increasing his fastball speed. Highlights from his training have been posted on his social media platforms.

In a tweet from May, McCraw’s fastball tops out at 97 mph in live batting practice. Texas State fans can expect the newcomer to be a worthy addition to the maroon and gold.

“To compete, I’m here to help [the Bobcats] win,” McCraw said when asked what his expectations are coming into the season in an interview with KTSW Sports Reporter, Reilly Low.

In the summer of 2020, McCraw competed in CSBI in early June where he played with now teammates Dontae Woodard (Freedom Team) and Tristan Stivors (Unity Team).
