The summer of 2022 has proven to be an incredible period of time for new great music. Many artists are preparing to release summer albums and have released singles that simply can not be missed. Artists such as Dayglow and The Front Bottoms are going on tour this fall and coming out with new music to perform.
“More Than It Hurts You” by The Front Bottoms
If there is only one The Front Bottoms fan, I am that person. The folk punk band from New Jersey came out with this single in late June. Their sound is incredibly infectious and unique. Lead singer, Brian Sella, has a very specific way of singing that makes midwestern emo fans go crazy. “More Than It Hurts You” shouts out the New Jersey shore in this new lyrical masterpiece about wanting to curate a new self in order to be liked better. This song is perfect for those that are wanting a typical midwest emo summer.
“Go Home!” By Claud
Claud is a spectacular songwriter and they have done it again with their newest single “Go Home!”. A song about longing for home is a feeling that most people will experience in their lifetime, especially in college. This upbeat bedroom pop song takes a hard feeling and turns it into a cheery song with truthful lyrics. Claud is a part of Phoebe Bridgers record company, Saddest Factory Records and went on tour with the band Bleachers in 2021. I simply can not wait for more music from them and seeing where they go next.
“Want Want” by Maggie Rogers
Maggie Rogers is a witchy indie star and is en route to releasing her second studio album, Surrender. “Want Want” is the second single from her new album and is a fantastic song to prepare for the release of her new record. Rogers created a rock ballad highlighting pleasure and it is a creative masterpiece. She utilized elements of layering and rock guitar sounds to create a joyful essence to the song. Rogers recently graduated from Harvard Divinity School and much of her new songs from her upcoming album are inspired by her schooling. This single is so fun for the summer and upcoming months to prepare for Surrender.
“Then It All Goes Away” by Dayglow
Dayglow will forever be one of my favorite bands of all time. All of their music sounds like a smile even if the lyrics reflect something completely different. Dayglow is touring in the United States next fall and they are an absolute must see band. The memorable lyrics along with the upbeat 80s pop sound make this song perfect for hot summer days. Texas native, Sloan Struble sings about the oblivious nature of someone that does not notice a flirtatious feeling. Many of Dayglow’s songs sound like a fun video game from the early 2000’s which I believe adds to their infectious sound.
“touch tank” by quinnie
I have been waiting for this song to come out for what feels like ages. After hearing snippets of it on Tik Tok and replaying it over and over again, it was finally released on the first of July. “Touch Tank” went absolutely viral on the internet and so many people were waiting for the release of the single. The catchiness of the chorus made people go nuts and was rightfully stuck in peoples heads for days. The single portrays lead singer Quinnie’s love interest in a romantic and passionate way. A love song for the compassionate side of men that is not always perceived. The indie pop love song is ideal for an indie pop summer love story.
Whether you are spending your summer working or with friends, these songs are sure to be great to add to all of your playlists. If you want to listen to these songs and more summer singles, here is a spotify playlist for your pleasure. Happy listening and happy summer!
