Throwback to your childhood days and lazy summer outings with your friends. A roam to the park, a birthday at the cartoon themed pizza parlor or best of all, an afternoon spent chasing a purple or green golf ball under a windmill at your local miniature golf course. It wasn’t so expensive that your parents would say no, and it made for a wonderful afternoon’s activity. If you were super lucky, your parents would let you go after dark! Under the lights with the fat summer moths fluttering around the flowers, doesn’t it just take you back?
Well, San Marcos now boasts an updated, grown-up improvement on your childhood experience: Putt-Pub. It is one of the best entertainment venues in San Marcos for a great day or night out with friends. With its relaxed atmosphere and welcoming aesthetic, Putt-Pub is a very laid-back venue to hang out with friends and play some putt-putt. Boasting two full bars and an 18-hole mini-golf course, it’s impossible to be bored here. Grab a drink and find out why this place always has something going on. Also, “Nacho-holics” on Mondays and Wednesdays, where you can grab dinner from Putt-Pub’s very own food truck so you can snack while you are on the green.
Private room rentals are available for whatever your special event needs are, or for larger events you could rent out the entire facility including the whole course. When I swung by (no pun intended), I learned about the couple who creatively booked the venue and putt putt course just last weekend for their wedding reception. Cleverly saving themselves thousands of dollars on an event, the staff member who described the party to me also reported that the fresh take on a wedding party was very popular with all the guests! I guess you could say it was a big hit (I promise I’ll stop with the puns).
I also had a chance to talk to the owner about the history behind the Putt Pub. He told me that it was originally a Texaco gas station from the 1970’s on the square until he bought it 3 years ago, this month! As well as celebrating their 3-year-anniversary, he says “We plan to have some spooky cocktails, maybe a costume contest and other things to get into the Halloween spirit.” They’ll be open on Halloween, so if you have no plans, come on down and visit the Putt Pub on Cheatham Street. I promise it’ll be un-fore-gettable (gotcha, I am the pun queen).
