Football - San Marcos High School
By Reily Chestnut Sports Director This Friday Night Fright went down as well as tequila and bleach for Rattlers Nation. Nothing was in the cards for San Marcos High School. On the night of Sep. 28, 2018 they hosted the juggernaut named Judson and paid a heavy price, losing early before the whistle sounded with a 47-7 loss to take in. I can’t imagine how these high school hitters feel, […]

By Reily Chestnut Sports Director Twitter: @KTSWSports Email: ktswsports@txstate.edu LAREDO, TX - Holy hell. After another long start (let’s measure it as 10 kilometers) it looks like the San Marcos Rattlers about had it with early stalls and sloppy defensive play. Thursday night, the snake reined supreme after the Rattlers pulled off a 28-point comeback to walk out of South Texas with a 50-49 win over the Longhorns of United […]

By Reily Chestnut Sports Director ktswsports@txstate.edu Twitter: @KTSWSports The Rattlers couldn’t benefit from the return of senior running back (and birthday boy) Jamon Johnson to pick up their first win of the season. Instead, the Jaguars' kicker Brody Patty helped lead an early exposing of the San Marcos’ special teams and set up a 48-28 loss for the Rattlers. The start wasn’t pretty for the Rattlers. The team, trying to […]

By Reed Graff Sports Reporter The San Marcos Rattlers traveled to New Braunfels this past Friday to take on the Unicorns in a much-anticipated rivalry game. Parker Rhea and Brendan Snow were there to call it for KTSW, and boy did they get to call a great game. The two teams quickly began trading blows, almost like a boxing match. The Unicorns scored first, and then the Rattlers fired right […]

By Reily Chestnut Assistant Sports Director “If it was a snake it would’ve bit him.” Last night, the Cougars were bit pretty harshly by the Rattlers as they slithered into New Braunfels hoping to dominate following a 28-0 win over East Central just earlier this season. I know what you are thinking, a 27-7 lead for Coach Soto and the Rattlers at the half and then a rushing TD one […]

By Brenden Snow Sports Reporter The San Marcos Rattlers put together a very nice 2016 campaign despite losing in the first round of playoffs at home last Friday to Stony Point. The Rattlers finished the regular season 6-4 and went 4-1 in their first year in a new new district, 6A Region II District 14. The Rattlers got out to a fairly slow start winning just 1 of their first […]

By Adam Byerly Sports Reporter The San Marcos Rattlers took on the Bowie Bulldogs at home Friday night for the district championship. Both teams came into the game undefeated in district play and looking to the playoffs as they both have clinched spots. San Marcos was never able to get anything offensively going in the first half. Jamon Johnson didn’t even get a running attempt until the second quarter. But […]

By Brenden Snow Sports Reporter The San Marcos Rattlers faced Austin's Anderson Trojans in an absolute dogfight Friday night at Nelson Park in Austin, Texas. The 3-0 Rattlers did not look like themselves early in the game. Anderson jumped out to a 21-0 lead early in the second, and things were not looking good for the visitors. Special teams came to play a big role early in this one. A muffed […]

By Adam Byerly Sports Reporter San Marcos and Del Valle were exchanging touchdowns early, but they weren’t exchanging extra points, as the first four extra points were missed as the score was 12-12 early into the second quarter. Jamon Johnson started the game, running it well as the Rattlers scored the first touchdown with about nine minutes to go in the first quarter. Del Valle answered back with a rushing […]
