Going out, enjoying the sun and doing fun activities is what spring break is all about for the many that participate in it. Some go and enjoy themselves at the beach, while others stay and do community service or work in order to pay the bills. The Innovation Manager at San Marcos’ Tourist center, Charlotte Wattigny enjoys the hiking trails San Marcos has to offer. Wattigny suggested the 8 green spaces and three dozen parks would be the ideal outdoor spot for those who stay in town or are planning a day out with the Family.

“I live really close to Shirley Canyon so I go and walk that park a whole lot, and I do like Rio Vista Park during the day when its not so crowded. If you’re interested in the outdoors we have a lot of green spaces that are great hiking trails that are anything from natural trails to usually the first half mile of them are ADA so if you’re not a big hiker or just a walker you would enjoy those.”

Even if you’re not a hiker and would rather walk, the trail accommodates to those needs having the Americans with Disabilities act in effect.
If you’re looking for a place that’s kid friendly, Wonder World park would be the spot. This park is known for being the first show cave in Texas.
“There’s a variety of things to do when you’re coming with little kids, like Wonder World park. Its a earthquake formed cave and its kind of neat for little kids because you’re allowed to touch the side of the walls unlike other caves.”

Kayaking is another way to enjoy the river, here you can decide how long and far you want to go.
“I go Kayaking a lot cause thats pretty neat and you can do anything from a 2 hour to a 7 hour kayak.”

For the adrenaline junkie theres Skydive San Marcos, where they welcome beginners and experienced skydivers. Another place to take the Family is the Classic Car Musuem Dick Classic garage with well preserved classic cars on display and all being made in the United States.

“What’s kind of neat is we have skydive San Marcos, it’s one of the few places where you can skydive year around and its pretty popular, people amazingly come from all over. Theres dick classic garage and even if you’re not a car lover cause I’m not a big car buff the first time I went its just amazing, there’s over 80 classic cars and there all American made ranging from 1929-1959.”
