The first item talked about in Tuesdays city council meeting was a conditional use permit for the coffee shop, Jo on the Go. They proposed a neighborhood commercial and according to the land development code, that does require a CUP. Things are permitted, not permitted or conditionally permitted in all of the zoning districts. The commission acted to approve it with a 9-0 vote.
The second was also a CUP for Bikinis since they serve alcohol. They have to have a conditional use permit and since their permit expired in 2011 this was a renewal. The final action was an approval for 6 months and that had a 7-2 vote. Amanda Hernandez, Senior Planner for Development Services, talks about the third item that was talked about.
“The third item was a request to change our preferred scenario plan and that map is found in our comprehensive plan which we’ve adopted about 6 months ago and this is the first time we’ve gone through this process. It was for a large property of off the Arlington road between post road and interstate 35 going down to the Blanco River. They are proposing some commercial and residential uses there. There right now wouldn’t be allowed under their current preferred scenario designation. There was a 7-2 vote to approve that change to go from an area of stability to a medium intensity. The area of stability would only allow them certain residential uses and because they wanted commercial they had to have this change.”
