Being the new kid at school can go two ways: you hide and get cast to the default table or you become the subject of conversation. These new kids moved to Austin only last year, started Wonderb**** in December of 2013, and performed in a CMJ showcase last month. It’s hard to notice that the band got it’s start only just late last winter. The group’s wall of psychedelic dreams have made their own mark on the saturated Austin music scene in a relatively short time. This is a band we don’t want to see packing up anytime soon.
Wonderb****’s wall of psychedelic fun demands more than one listen. With Alex Chod on keys and vocals, Joel Wukusick manning guitar, Colton Hardin, electric guitar, Corey Fitzgerald Spears on bass and Evan Wade keeping it all together on drums, Wonderb**** is a band to catch live. Their performance pushes listeners out onto the inviting dance floor with disco-prog driven lines awash in dreamy textures. I think they made disco-prog a thing in this school of music. In the city of “weird,” Wonderb**** played a show at Lambert’s (Austin) on November 7 and followed with a tour to Los Angeles.
