The Texas State Women’s basketball team fell to Appalachian State 61-55 last night after a neck and neck game with 13 lead changes and four ties.
With injuries to players who usually see substantial minutes and coming off a double overtime loss against Lafayette, Head Coach Zenarae Antoine was proud of her players for working hard and finding a way to finish.
“The players rotationally that helped quite a bit were Meghan and Erin Peoples. They did a good job of understanding who their match ups were and when they could deter. There is a lot of second-guessing on the offenses part. The help defense was huge. Those players did a good job where we didn’t do a job giving them quite a bit of layups. The kids found a way to finish and that’s what I’m most proud of coming off especially coming off the last two.”
Last Saturday’s win against Arkansas State clinched Texas State’s spot in the upcoming SBC Tournament, but the win last night for Appalachian State got them a spot the tournament as well. The Bobcats will play in the Sunbelt Championship Tournament at 2:30 pm Wednesday in New Orleans.
“At this point for me with our team is what is our response going to be going into tomorrow and our game against Georgia State. For them this is for them to enjoy tonight. We hit the floor again and it’s going to be really important to see our response, our timeout response or our break response. That response and consistency is really going to show me and show us and each other how far we can go.”
This Saturday will be the Bobcat’s final game of the 2014-15 season. The game will be played on the road against UL Monroe. Tip off is at 2pm and the game can be heard right here on KTSW 89.9.
