This past weekend Texas State baseball competed for first place in the Sunbelt conference against Georgia Southern in a three game series. After splitting the first two games of the series, The Bobcats took home the victory Sunday afternoon with a score of 11-4 in Sunday’s game and took over first place in the Sun Belt.It was the bobcats third series win of the season and improves to 12-14-1 on the season and 8-4 in the Sun Belt conference. Home runs from Granger Studdard, Tanner Hill and Ben McElroy helped the Bobcats take the lead from Georgia Southern early on. Assisant coach Jeremy Ficak discussed the importance of taking the last game of the series.
“I thought they came out very competitive it doesn’t hurt that we get out to an early lead and that’s something we talked about. When you get knocked down you got to get back up and I think our kids had a lot of fight in them today .”Tanner Hill continued his hot weekend going 2-4 with 3 RBI’s. Ficak went on to discuss how important, line-up depth is. “Those guys are confident and Tanner stepped up again big behind Granger, and that’s a good combination. We have the ability to drive the baseball with those couple of guys in the middle.”
Junior pitcher Jeremy Hallonquist maintained the Bobcats lead against Georgia Southern striking out 6 batters and only giving up two hits.
“I expect him to continue to get stronger as this thing goes. The kid put in a lot of work, changing his body, becoming more physical, strong. He’s one of the kids every time on the road he’s in the hotel weight room trying to get better.”
The Bobcats next game is Tuesday against UTSA at 6 p.m and can be heard here on KTSW with pregame coverage beginning at 5:45. For KTSW Sports I’m Tessa Andrade
