    Bobcats fall to Roadrunners

2015-03-29 13.40.50-2Texas State baseball faced off against their cross-town rival last night UTSA. The hard fought game ended in favor of the roadrunners with the score 5-4. Texas State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Cedric Vallieres hitting his 6th homerun of the season. UTSA then answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the first.

The roadrunners then owned the middle innings by scoring 3 more runs and stretched the lead to 5-1. Coach Fikac stressed the importance of the early innings. “Here’s what I’ll tell you and what I tell my kids. Heavyweight fights are scheduled for 12 rounds, I’ve seen people get knocked out in the first. It happens. So that is why you have to come out and you have to execute early.”

Over the past few games, Granger Studdard and Cedric Vallieres have been on a hitting tear. Both of them had a homerun in this game against UTSA and they both have a combined total 32 RBI’s on the season. When asked about these two players, Coach Fikac had this to say. “If you think about Studdard hitting the ball the other way, home runs that’s his approach that’s his strength.” Fikac went on to say “Cedric, he wants the ball elevated he gets the barrel out and he hits it to the left center gap to the left field pole. Those guys are executing their approaches as good as we got right now.”

The Bobcats next game will be against will be at home on Thursday April 2nd against a Baylor team that is coming off a big win against Oklahoma. The bobcats are looking to advance their record to 13-15-1 overall.
