The Rattler offense has been the center of the discussion for the first two wins of the season, but now it is the defense that is getting headlines in the district opening 35-21 win over Seguin to improve to 3-0 and 1-0 in district play.
The San Marcos defense came up big with Jose Tarango leading the team with 11 tackles and notching two of the four sacks by the Rattlers. The defense also chipped in on offense scoring with a pick six by Chris Cain.
Even though the Rattler offense did not have the stellar performance like the last two games, they were still able to log 249 rushing yards as a team with Cavion Garner leading the offense with 167 yards and three touchdowns including an 80 yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter that would seal the game.
Penalties plagued the Rattlers most of the game while quarterback David Hamilton “struggled” (if you can call it that) most of the game only going 9-21 for 93 yards passing and 70 yards rushing, but was able to get a 45 yard touchdown run to help out the Rattlers. Still, the Rattlers were able to log over 300 yards of total offense.
San Marcos finally returns to Rattler Stadium this Friday night when they take on San Antonio Memorial in their home district opener at 7:30pm. You can listen to the game right here on KTSW.
