Texas State alumnus Jeff Howe, a writer for Horns247, visited campus this week to speak to a Sports Media Class.
Howe noted that journalism used to be about subscriptions and the number of readers, but now is about Facebook traffic, Twitter traffic and how many clicks they can get per article.
“The days of reporting, being a journalist who just reports, those days are coming to an end,” Howe said.
Much of Howe’s work after the football season leads up to the biggest day of recruiting, National Signing Day. Howe said he builds sources with high school recruits by establishing a good rapport with high school coaches. He said Twitter has become a huge resource for high school recruits and getting information about where they might go.
“Win,” was Howe’s response when asked asked how Texas State marketing and PR could help with recruiting. He said that Bobcat fans will have to wait and see how Everett Withers’ tenure goes to be able to tell how wise his hiring was, but Howe was optimistic about Texas State’s future. “There is enough talent in this state to be successful.”
