In a must-win game, the Texas State men’s basketball team beat South Alabama 68-57 for the fourth consecutive time.
The Bobcats were able to overcome their first halftime deficit this season, which boosted them to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The men will be headed to New Orleans, Louisiana with the women on Wednesday.
Texas State found themselves trailing the majority of the match until around the 13 minute mark of the second half. The Bobcats then went on a 13-1 run sparked by Ojai Black and they never looked back.
In the win, senior forwards Cameron Naylor and Emani Gant led the team in scoring. Naylor finished with a career-high and a team-high 22 points, along with nine rebounds. Gant was able to notch his seventh double-double of the season after a 19 point, 11 rebound performance.
The third senior on the Bobcats’ roster, Ethan Montalvo, scored nine points in the win. His two threes in the game now ties him for top 10 in Texas State history with 3-point shots made in a season.
The ‘Cats finished the season with a regular season record of 14-15, and a conference record of 8-12. In the win, they locked up the No. 7 seed for the SBC Tournament. They will face Georgia State in the first round on Thursday night.
