Bobcat baseball ended their five game road trip with a loss to the Texas Longhorns at Disch-Falk Field. The Texas Longhorns defeated the Bobcats with the final score of 6-2.
In the third inning, freshman Ryan Newman hit a single that would score Jared Huber and Jacob Almendarez to tie the game 2-2. But a powerful Longhorn offense proved to be too much for Texas State. The tie score didn’t last long as a home run by Kacy Clemens in the third inning gave the Horns the lead. After that home run, Texas would keep adding to their lead.
Unfortunately, the Bobcat defense did not click and gave away an unearned run from a throwing error which put Texas up, 5-2. At the bottom of the fifth, a sacrifice fly scored a run for the Horns to put Texas up 6-2.
“We didn’t play very sound, fundamental baseball,” Coach Ty Harrington said after the tough loss. “We’re a much more fundamentally sound team than what showed out there.”
Texas State currently has a 22-20 overall record on the season. The Cats will host the Troy Trojans in a three-game series this weekend, starting on Friday at 6 p.m. All three games will air on the KTSW website or 89.9 on your dial.
