Seniors Tanner Hill and Cory Geisler both had a home run in the ball game to power over the Trojans in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament at Bobcat Ballpark on Wednesday.

Starting in the first inning, Hill swung a home run to score a 2-0 lead. Later, back to back RBI’s by Troy tied the game at the bottom of the second inning. It didn’t take long for two solo home runs by Troy to give them a 4-2 lead. A throwing error by the Troy pitcher allowed Geisler to tie the ball game 4-4.

In the eighth inning, designated hitter Geisler hit a single down the line which enabled Granger Studdard to score and give the Bobcats a 5-4 lead over Troy. The Bobcats did not let go off the gas from here on out. A single by Derek Scheible scored two runs for the Bobcats and extended the lead 7-4.

In the ninth inning, Dylan Paul’s single brought Hill home to increase the score 8-4. Geisler ended the offensive efforts for the Bobcats with a home run, giving the Bobcats the victory with an 11-4 final score.

“Defensively we were able to capitalize on some mistakes that happened during the game and it is part of the game of baseball,” said head coach Ty Harrington.

Texas State, the fifth seed, will face the winner between Louisiana- Lafayette and Arkansas State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
